PREFIXES are attached to the beginning of a word to change its meaning.
DIS- means "not" or "un". For example, dislike means to not like.
MIS- means "to do in a wrong way". For example, misunderstand means to understand the wrong way.
PRE- means "before". For example, preschool is where kids go before they go to school.
